These agents block cholinergic receptors thereby inhibit cholinergic transmission hence these agents are also called as parasympatholytics.
Are they specific?
Yes, these drugs are somewhat specific in their action towards acetylcholine receptors. Unlike cholinergic agonists, these drugs can block specifically either muscarinic receptors or nicotinic receptors. Nicotinic receptors are blocked at two locations one at ganglia and another at neuromuscular junction.
